Combining art and football, Bundesliga team VfB Stuttgart unveiled a special edition jersey named ‘StuttgART’ for the 23/24 season, to be worn in a home game against Werder Bremen on 2 December. Celebrating the club’s 130th anniversary, the jersey was designed by artist Tim Bengel in black, white, and gold colors, inspired by his works. The pattern on the jersey represents a cross-section of a Filderkraut head, a superfood from the region, and comes in five variations taken from different parts of a larger image.
Tim Bengel expressed his excitement about the project, combining his love for art and the VfB club. The limited edition StuttgART jersey, priced at 189.30 euros to reflect the club’s founding year, includes a digital signature in the form of an NFT chip and supports the VfB ‘Brustring der Herzen’ foundation, benefitting social projects in the region. The jersey features the foundation’s logo on the sleeve and the words STUTTGART on the chest, accompanied by a collector’s box and hand-signed certificate of authenticity.
VfB CEO Alexander Wehrle emphasized the importance of sports, art, and culture in urban society, especially during the challenges of the pandemic. He highlighted the club’s role as a cultural asset in the region and the symbolic significance of the StuttgART jersey in promoting social issues, democracy, and society. The unique design of the jersey reflects the club’s commitment to giving back to the community and supporting important causes, making it a special item for collectors and fans.
The StuttgART jersey was in high demand upon its release, quickly selling out due to its limited edition and unique design inspired by art and local culture.
