Summarize this content in well-structured paragraphs in German language and keep HTML tags Roland Roth, age 81, of Hockessin, DE passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024, following several months of hospice care.Roland was born in Stuttgart, Arkansas to a hardworking family of rice and soybean farmers. He was the third son of Ray Roth and Dorothy Spicer Roth, and younger brother to Jim and Charles. The Roth and Spicer families were well known in the farming community of this southeastern region of the Arkansas Delta. Roland grew up in the love and company of extended family, the Methodist church, and the wild lands of prairie, farm fields, and open spaces. From a young age, Roland was drawn to the natural world, earning his first pay by trapping “critters” for local farmers who found them to be pests. He attended a one-room country school led by his favorite teacher, Mrs. McGraw, from first through 6th grades, and then graduated from Stuttgart High School in 1961. Like his brothers before him, he left the farm to attend the University of Arkansas, where he majored in Zoology and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation in 1965, he entered a PhD program in Zoology/Ecology at the University of Illinois, graduating in 1971. He went on to join the faculty of the Entomology and Applied Ecology department at the University of Delaware, rising through the ranks to full professor and serving as department chair for 4 years. During his tenure, he taught numerous courses in ecology, wildlife conservation, avian biology, and mammalogy, touching the lives of hundreds of students along the way. His primary research was in the breeding ecology and demographics of Wood Thrush, but he also led studies on the ecology of yellowjackets, gray squirrels, House Sparrows and Veeries. He advised hundreds of undergraduate, Master’s and PhD students, ensuring that his commitment to protecting the planet would live on through them. He retired from UD in 2005.Birds of all kinds were his love, and he knew every song and every characteristic, always excited to point out a bird he spotted to anyone who was nearby.  He was a wealth of knowledge on all wildlife, and would gently explain behavior, identification, and the importance of conservation to anyone who would inquire. He was passionate about habitat preservation and did his part by creating native plant gardens and sharing his plants with fellow gardeners.Roland was very active in Newark United Methodist Church, where he served in countless roles on boards, councils and as a Sunday School teacher for the Trying Christians Adult Sunday School. His faith in God and in Christian principles were evident in the way he lived his life and cared for others.Roland was a gentle and humble man, with a grace and peace about him that was challenged when he was struck with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) in 1999. Left fully paralyzed for months, he rallied and worked tirelessly to learn to walk and use his limbs again. Even when he could not move, he would say, “There is surely someone worse off than me.”    Roland’s greatest love, though, was his family. Fiercely devoted to Regina whom he wed in June of 1964, he shared a love with her of their three children and six grandchildren. He loved his Sunday suppers, his sweets, introducing his children and grandchildren to nature, and the laughs and memories that were created over his lifetime with them.Roland is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Regina, who was his caretaker through GBS and through his recent illness, providing endless hours of care, love, and support; his children, Karen Roth Aniunas (Mark Moline), Sherry Roth Hershberger (Tom), and Chad Roth; his grandchildren, Jesse Hershberger, Emily Aniunas, Rebekah Hershberger, Madeline Aniunas, Sarah Hershberger, and Abigail Aniunas; and many nephews, a niece, cousins and family members. In addition to his parents, Roland was preceded in death by his siblings, Jim Roth (JoAnn) and Charles Roth (Georgia). Roland’s family would like to thank Delaware Hospice, who provided such good care for Roland, and to all the family and friends who supported them during the last five months. All are invited to visit the family at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd Wilmington, DE 19808 on Friday, July 19, 2024 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.  A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Newark United Methodist Church, 69 E.
